OK, first off I am a massive fan of Dean Koontz. I have probably got every book he has ever written. But this one does not even feel like he wrote it. I had to google to see if Koontz uses ghost writers but apparently he does not.
There's several apologies to the reader for not-very-nice scenarios coming up. Since when was that a thing in a supernatural thriller book? Trigger warning for those with egg shell personalities?
There's both grammar and spelling mistakes: mistakes are a very rare thing indeed in a Dean Koontz book.
One thing Dean Koontz does well is describe the character for you. That way you can more easily build an image in your mind of who this character is. However he does this normally with major characters. Minor characters get a brief description but that's all. But in this book all characters get a detailed description even if they appear only once in the story and aren't referenced later. That means it's a very wordy book, with a lot of wordiness that simply isn't necessary.
Oh and did I mention the grammar errors?
