I do really enjoy this series, which has got better over the years. However, bit of a yawn this one, with far too much time (and tedious repetition) spent on the MINOR SPOILER ALERT unwanted attention of the (as usual) incompetent new senior officer towards his female junior officer. I was getting lost amongst all the very many senior officers this station has - I know part of the story is getting the point across about lack of boots on the ground officers, but really? The case itself lacked the usual spine-tingling elements that make the series stand out a little, and at 17 quid, I wish I'd either waited for the paperback (tho they are getting ridiculously expensive these days), or even had a browse in the library. Hope this doesn't signal the downward spiral I've seen in many a good series - pressure from the publisher to produce that book a year with so many words perhaps? When will they get it - readers don't fall for this, they just get p!ssed off, and avoid the new titles until they are far cheaper than the new hardback price, or even leave the series altogether
